The Junior League of Johnson City (JLJC) is currently accepting applications for our Volunteer Scholarship that supports the volunteer and leadership potential of our youth. This one-time awarded scholarship, in the amount of $2000, is granted annually to one female high school senior who demonstrates outstanding volunteer performance in the community. The winner will receive $1000 in the fall of 2022 and $1000 in the spring of 2023.
Applicants must be a female, graduating senior from a Tri-Cities area school (Johnson City, Washington/Carter/Unicoi counties) and must be attending a 4-year local university (King, ETSU, Milligan, Tusculum, Kingsport Higher Education Center). Additionally, they must demonstrate outstanding extracurricular involvement and volunteer commitment to the Tri-Cities community and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Recommendations from a teacher, school administrator, or volunteer organization director are required and students may ask a teacher to recommend them.
The awards will be presented at the JLJC end-of-year dinner meeting and each winner will be assigned a JLJC mentor during their first year of college. They will also be asked to submit an essay or letter the following year about their first-year college experience.
Applications are due by March 1 and can be found on the JLJC website at http://www.juniorleagueofjc.com/community-impact/volunteer-scholarship/, along with the scholarship requirements.
