The second game of the Small School Tournament finals would see the Keenburg Tigers face the Central Comets in the first boy’s game of the night.
Keenburg would get the first score after just over a minute of play in the first period. Michael Waterman would get the Comets on the board soon after tying up the game at the mid-point of the period. It was a tight match-up early on as the two teams would tussle back and forth with Keenburg edging Central by a basket.
Keenburg did the most damage in the second period with 14 points to Central’s one. Early on, the Tigers would make whole team substitutions which gave them fresh legs throughout the period and it proved effective as the Comets struggled.
Going into halftime, Gabriel Hopson had a nice rebound taking it coast-to-coast for the score making it 24-7 at halftime.
Central had a little bit of a run in the third period as they tried to fight their way back into the game, but the athleticism of Keenburg would prove to be too much as they would edge the Comets 11-9 in the period.
The latter stage of the period saw Ricky Yoder score after a nice rebound from Lucas Dugger for the Tigers. The Comets would fall victim to Keenburg’s excellent rebounding as their shots became more off-target as the period drew to a close.
The final period opened up with Robert Greene making a nice short jumper after an inbound pass from just beyond the foul line to put the Tigers up 35-16.
Things would continue to go downhill for the Comets as Keenburg had almost as strong of a fourth period as they did in the second. Ricky Yoder put a nail in the coffin with a rebound and jump shot to give the Tigers the 46-21 victory.
Keenburg finished third overall in the tournament behind Unaka and Little Milligan.
