Sonia June Lovelace Walker, 82, Elizabethton, known as “Soap” to family and friends, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at her residence.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late John and Effie Timbs Lovelace.
Sonia was an active member of Doe River Baptist Church. She loved being around her grandchildren and in earlier years she loved working in her flowers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Billy “Bob” Walker; two sisters, Carolyn Sue Lovelace and Jean Bautista; and a brother, Jacky Lovelace.
Survivors include her children, Rick (Betty) Walker, Vickie Walker Cable and Jackie Walker (Doug) Markland, all of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Travis Walker, Brandi Markland (Tommy) Oliver and Mandi Markland, all of Elizabethton; one great-granddaughter, Thea Jane Oliver; her extended family she loved as her own, Hannah Norris and Bud Adkins; a brother, Johnny Lovelace, Elizabethton; a sister, Elizabeth “Babe” Kulka, Chesterfield, Mich.; her special friends, Cookie Lovelace, Anita Vestal, Elwood and Beulah Duvall, Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 3, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carl Grindstaff officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday, February 4, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Friday, will be Laken Barnett, Matthew Erickson, Doug Markland, Bud Adkins, Tommy Oliver and Jack Wilson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Sheryl Pack and Avalon Hospice and Medical Team. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
