Mitchell Wayne Vestal, 67, Elizabethton, died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at his home.
Mr. Vestal was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Preston Wayne and Janey Faye Vestal. Also preceding him in death is his sister, Patricia Gail Vestal, and his wife, Stephanie Karen Vestal.
Mitchell was retired from working many years in asphalt. He also spent approximately 34 years in fire service as a volunteer fireman and also served several years as Chief of the Hampton Valley Forge Fire Department. Mitchell was a member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church and was active in his church until the last few months, due to declining health.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Hoe, of the home; a son, Dalton Vestal and his fiancée Jacklyn Jessee of Elizabethton; and a step-daughter, Patricia English and her fiancé Troy Martin. Mitchell has two sisters, Sandra and Roger Stout of Hampton, and Diane and Issac McKinney of Raleigh, and one brother, Chris Vestal and his fiancée B.J. Burns, also of Hampton. There are several grandchildren that were the highlight of his life, Dakota and KC English, Kayson, Arabella, Nova, and Leland Vestal.
Graveside services for Mitchell Wayne Vestal will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 6, in the Potter Cemetery, 137 Yard Hill Road, Elizabethton, with Pastor Ronnie Campbell officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to meet at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, February 6, will be Dalton Vestal, Chris Vestal, Brian Potter, Aaron Clark, Austin Dillard, Harley White, Zack Buckles, Jacob Potter, Zack Justus and Josh Morgan. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Campbell, Roger Stout, Herm Stout, Dakota English and members of the Hampton Valley Forge Fire Department. The family is receiving friends and family at Mitchell’s residence at 137 Yard Hill Road, Elizabethton.
Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
