The Hampton Bulldogs traveled to North Greene to face the Huskies on their home turf.  It was a charged-up atmosphere after the crazy finish to the girl’s game.
The first half did not disappoint as both teams came to play.  It was back and forth scoring for most of the first period, as both teams had excellent ball movement and shooting.  Hampton had a bit of advantage inside with size and strength.
The Bulldogs made good use of the inside advantage with several assists and strong baskets by Conor Burleson and Hayden Campbell.  Burleson would have a great game with 18 points on the night.
The second period was much of the same, but things simply went Hampton’s way towards the end of the second period.  North Greene had opportunities, but strong play underneath by Burleson along with missed shots and turnovers by North Greene let the Bulldogs sneak ahead 35-31 going into halftime.
Hampton would continue the momentum at the beginning of the second half and would strike quickly making it 39-32 early.  Cadon Buckles would then immediately score on a fast break after a Huskie miss and Bulldog rebound, putting Hampton up by ten.  It was looking good for the Bulldogs as a continued strong play in the paint by the big men and high-pressure defense.
Going into the fourth, the Huskies would begin to come back to life and show the same ball handling and shooting that kept it a tight game in the first period.
Everything had been going Hampton’s way, but then Cody Freshour for North Greene would put up a shot and get the foul, letting North Greene begin to creep back in.
Jason Britton was then fouled by Isaiah McCoury of the Bulldogs.  Britton would hit both shots and one could feel the momentum begin to shift.
The Huskie comeback would be briefly interrupted by more strong play by Hampton underneath after an inbound to Burleson led to a score.
The Huskies’ Britton hit a crucial three, furthering the North Greene comeback, but Hampton countered with good rebounding and a score by Buckles.
North Greene turned up the defense and got more opportunities as Britton would make a nice reverse layup to tie the game at 51-all with five minutes to go in the game.
It would come down to the wire as back and forth scoring would end in a tie, taking the game into overtime.
This is where it really got interesting, as the Huskies would draw first blood and have a strong start to the overtime period.
With 16.8 seconds to go, Hampton called a timeout and draw up a plan for a three-point play.  The Bulldogs would get the ball to Dalton Holtsclaw who would come up just short.
Hampton got called for a foul on the rebound, sending Tyler Sanches to the line for North Greene.
Sanshes would sink both and would ice the win for the Huskies in a heartbreaking loss for the Hampton Bulldogs. Jason Britton for North Greene would set a school record for scoring with an amazing 43 points on the night.
