The Tennessee High Lady Vikings know what it’s like to be caught in a downpour and not even an umbrella can help.
That quick lesson came Tuesday during the Lady Vikings Upper Lakes Conference tilt with Elizabethton who was celebrating Homecoming 2022.
Elizabethton poured in 11 treys en route to an easy 74-33 victory which sealed the number-two seed in next week’s District tournament at Volunteer High School.
Renna Lane got the party started as she canned five first-half treys to charter a course a the game-high leading scorer with 21 points. She had 19 of those points in the first half as she nailed five treys in the half.
Meanwhile, Marlee Mathena was playing exceptional basketball as well as the post added nine in the half including a step-back jumper from the foul line that had even her head coach Lucas Andrews flashing a big grin.
Maddie Fowler added a pair of treys in the half but the most picturesque trey came with time running down in the half when Lady Cyclone guard Reiley Whitson was cutting across the top of the arc and threw up a one-handed prayer that found it’s answer plus an and-one for Whitson who completed the four-point play with 1.1 ticks left before intermission.
Leading 49-20 coming out of the locker room it was just a matter of clean-up the rest of the contest for Elizabethton as Lina Lyon, who was crowned the Junior Princess at halftime of the boys game, scored six and Olivia Holly added five to make sure the Lady Cyclones kept the foot on the gas.
Mathena finished with 13 points and Lyon 10 for the game.
Tennessee High received a team-high 17 points from Kendall Cross to pace the Lady Vikings.
