Barbara D. Heaton McCurry, 85, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at The Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Center. Barbara was born in Roan Mountain to the late Clifford and Pearl Carver Heaton. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Bobby Eugene McCurry; her sisters, Juanita (Ford) Miller and Pat (John) Winters; and her brothers, Roy (Elizabeth) Heaton and Ray Heaton.
Barbara was a homemaker and was known as the family caregiver. She was member of St. John Freewill Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish Barbara’s memory include her sons, Jack (Anita) Heaton of Marquette, Mich., and Rick (Kathy) Heaton of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Kristi (Rob) Dugger of Roan Mountain, Tenn., and Missy Heaton of Elizabethton, Tenn.; two great-grandsons, Josh Dugger of Roan Mountain, Tenn., and Correy (Lauren) Dugger of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and her sister-in-law, Bonnie Odom of Jonesborough, Tenn. Several special nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Tim Hughes officiating. Music will be under the direction of Tim and Sandra Hughes. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Caraway, Roger Miller, Johnny Ledford, Leslie Storie and Jeremy Clipse. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 11:45 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to especially thank the staff of The Waters of Roan Highlands and Dr. Vivian Clark for the exceptional care given to Barbara during her illness.
