HAMPTON – The Hampton Middle Jr. Bulldogs played host to University on Thursday at Hampton’s Scotty Bunten Field.
Neither team managed much offensively in the first inning as Jr. Bulldog pitcher Jayden Kuhn was doing good work on the mound to keep the Jr. Bucs bats silent.
University dented the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning plating two runs to take the 2-0 lead. Hampton couldn’t respond and the score at the end of two innings of play was 2-0 Jr. Bucs.
The third inning was a repeat of the first as neither team could get anything working as the score remained at 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
In the top of the fourth, the wheels came off for Hampton as University plated four runs utilizing two wild pitches and putting the ball in play with their sticks.
Hampton responded with a single run in the bottom of the frame when Connor McKinney brought Peyton Townsend to the dish to make it a 6-1 game University.
University tacked on six more runs in the top of the fifth to make it a 12-1 game heading into the bottom of the inning. Needing a big rally to stay in the game, Hampton failed to produce any runs as University took the game in a 10-run mercy rule, 12-1.
