Elizabethton residents can soon take advantage of a sweet frozen treat during the Assistance and Resource Ministry’s Double DQ Quest on April 23.
“This event is a run, walk or bike event where participants will begin on the Tweetsie Trail across the street from the Johnson City Dairy Queen and travel all the way to the Elizabethton Dairy Queen,” said Liz Banks of ARM. “That is where participants will be greeted with a free ice cream cone for completing their quest.”
Banks said participants also will receive a T-shirt before beginning their journey. The shirts feature a picture of the Tweetsie Trail and an ice cream cone in the center.
“The thing that we are trying to do this year is to replace the doors in front of the ARM building,” Banks said. “The weather from outside always finds its way into the building. Along with that, most of our volunteers are older, so we would like to add automatic doors to help them out when carrying food and other items in.”
Banks said the organization is excited to host the event.
“This event is so exciting to us because it isn’t your typical race, but a quest for ice cream,” Banks said. “The idea is to do the whole seven miles, but it is not a rule if you are not able.
“It is wonderful to have such an amazing community behind us on something like this, because we would not be here if it were not for the support of the community. Being surrounded by the types of people we have in this community makes me smile,” Banks said.
Banks said that the main need for this event right now is for participants and sponsors. Anyone interested in becoming a sponsor or participating can visit ARM’s Facebook page here or visit the Assistance and Resource Ministry’s location at 714 West C Street in Elizabethton on Tuesday or Wednesday.
ARM’s Double DQ Quest will take place on Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Cost of registration for the event is $25 for adults and $15 for children. Banks said that for groups of 10 or more, a lower rate can be offered. T-shirt sizes will be included in the registration form on ARM’s Facebook Page.
