To the Editor:
I lived 30 some thankful years of my Yankee-transplant life in Elizabethton, and it became my “hometown.” Please, I beg of you, put out the fact, that the city just needs to sell that land to some private citizen for $1 to keep the crosses. I respect our country and our constitution; and I respect each person for his/her thoughts. There are many American citizens that have lived in countries where the interpretation of a law or rule is based solely upon control; they understand that this is just “the camel’s nose under the tent.” Disagreements become continual arguments in semantics. If that individual is so offended by the sign of 3 crosses, ask him or her simply not to look up on Lynn Mountain. Tons of art work and statues on public display in this country offend me … all the way to my very being; however, I would never presume that the country, state, or city should respond to my opinion. My suggestion is hopefully a way in which the town can be Elizabethton, and keep lifting spirits to be independent thinkers in a country united in freedom.
Thank you for listening to my rant. My heart aches. Please put that thought out to the city people some way; I have not kept up with all changes since we have moved. I don’t know to whom to send my thought. My husband is the one who suggested this to me. Again, thank you for listening.

Genuinely,
Maggie Greene White
