Marvin Allen “Al” Holmes, 81, SFC Ret., Elizabethton, passed away Monday, March 28, 2022, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born April 12, 1940 in Keedysville, Md., to the late Garfield S. and Katherine Smith Holmes.
Marvin was retired from the United States Army after serving 20 years. He served during the Vietnam Era. He had attended the Cherokee Mountain Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Burchett Holmes, who passed away October 5, 2020, and a granddaughter, Britney Holmes.
Survivors include his children, Cynthia Rose Fuller, Clarksville, Tenn., Anthony A. Holmes, English, Ky., Sherlock A. Holmes, Logan, Ohio, and Danny G. Holmes, Clarksville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Shellie Thompson, Emilie Holmes, Heather Holmes, Michael Holmes, Benjamin Fuller, Rigel Jennings and D’Anna Holmes; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Dean, Elizabethton; a daughter-in-law, Robin Hornsby; and his four-legged buddy, Bear.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Garland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military Honors will be provided by the Veterans Honor Guard DAV 39, Bluff City. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, prior to the service.
