Citizens of Elizabethton and Carter County are invited to attend a special National Day of Prayer service Thursday, May 5, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Carter County Courthouse, 801 E. Elk Ave. The event is planned for outdoors on the steps of the courthouse, but will be moved inside if the weather does not permit.
Several local ministers will be leading the community in prayer for various areas of concern. This year’s theme is “Exalt The Lord Who Has Established Us” and the key verse is Col. 2: 6.
The public is invited to bring a lawn chair and spend their lunch hour in prayer with and for the community. The event will be carried live on WBEJ Radio.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
