To the Editor:
The Bible commands everyone to love God and be strong and courageous. The Bible praises mothers who were strong and courageous. Esther saved her country by being courageous. Esther said, “If I perish, I perish.” Judge Deborah led and saved her country. The Bible in Judges 4 praises Jael and says she is blessed above women. Jael killed evil enemy General Sisera with a tent nail hammered through his head while he slept. So today we should praise the strong and courageous women serving in law enforcement, the military and in homes across America. These strong and courageous mothers know how to hammer their point home. These strong and courageous women are raising strong and courageous children who love Jesus and God is pleased!
Our first president, George Washington, said, “My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual, and physical education I received from her.” The mother of Winston Churchill wrote him saying, “If you would only trace out a plan of action for yourself and carry it out and be determined to do so. I am sure you could accomplish anything you wished.” His mother taught him to be determined and not give up. Christian mothers like George Washington and Winston Churchill had are making a positive difference in their children’s lives and in the world!
In Proverbs 31 and throughout the Bible it describes and praises Godly virtuous mothers. She cooks, cleans, sews and plants at her home while holding down a job outside her home. She loves people, and they love her. She has plenty of time for everything because she gets up early and works hard. She doesn’t waste time on self-pity or complaining. Her number one concern and focus is God. She developed her relationship with God by prayer and walking daily with Him. She shares the wisdom she learned from God and the Bible with her family.
It’s our attitude toward and respect for our parents that according to the Bible brings God’s blessing or cursing. Those like George Washington that love and respect their parents, God blesses with a longer and better life than they would have had. The Bible says things won’t go well for those who don’t honor their mother and father. Michael Jackson hated his father and Anna Nicole Smith hated her mother. Both died young. Motherly words of wisdom have kept their children out of trouble. They taught their sons and daughters what the Bible says, such as to only marry another Christian. Now more than ever, children need to hear words of wisdom from a Christian mother that loves Jesus. Some wrongly worship or pray to Mary the mother of Jesus. The Bible says not to worship anyone but God. Mary the mother of Jesus said these wise words we should all obey, “whatever Jesus says do it.” Jesus, our example, loved his mother to death. While dying for our sins on the cross he asked John to take care of his mother. The Christian way is to love and honor your mother well when she is alive and continue to love and honor her until you die or she dies. For Christians every day is Mother’s Day and we love our mother to death!
What character and attitude we leave in our children is more important than what things we leave to them. We salute the mothers who have helped bring their children to a saving faith in Jesus and a love for Jesus. They have succeeded in the thing that matters most. Don’t just send Mom flowers or a card. Make Mom happy; go see her and go to church with her and take her out to eat — and clean your plate. As they say, “If momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.”
