Some city streets will get much-needed paving after the Elizabethton City Council voted Thursday to accept Pave-Well Paving Company’s bid of $410,100 for work to begin in the fiscal year 2022-2023.

However, when the funds run out, the paving will end, council members said.

“From what I have heard from others, Pave-Well does a very good job,” said Street and Sanitation Manager Danny Hilbert. “We will be using virgin asphalt for the paving which means it is fresh asphalt and not milled.”

The council also gave approval for three events in the city:
– Elizabethton Dance Club outdoor community dance on Saturday, May 28, from 5 to 9 p.m. on the third block of downtown, from the South Sycamore Street intersection to Riverside Drive. This closure is the same as the Car Club closure, which is already approved. Riverside Tap House and Big Dan’s BBQ will be sponsoring the event.

Dugger Jr. High. Road closures are required from 8 to 9 p.m. for the safety of those participating. A special ceremony, recognition and awards will take place inside the football stadium at 9 p.m. upon the conclusion of the race.
– The 2022 Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at the Elizabethton-Carter County War Memorial from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 30.
