The Watauga Valley Art Leagues’s Summer Show opened this week at Sycamore Shoals State Park. The art league is celebrating 53 years.
The show opened Thursday and art will be on display through June 26.
The Meet the Artist Awards Reception will be held Sunday, June12. This multi-media exhibit is two art shows in one: 19th Annual Judged Show and the 27th Annual Watauga Valley Art League Member Show.
Established in 1969, the Watauga Valley Art League has 100 plus members in the six Northeastern counties of Tennessee. Its mission is to encourage artists and promote public interest in fine art through education, networking, and fellowship among its member artists. The league’s membership consists of art teachers, professional hobbyists, amateurs and some who just love art.
The league has informational programs and demonstrations, sponsors member art exhibits, has a free video art library, and participates in community service art projects.
Member work typically includes a broad range of media, such as oil, acrylics, watercolor, pastel, pen and ink, mixed media and sculpture.
The league meets the second Sunday of each month from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Park.
The summer show will be open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
