Onnie Jemema Lowe Ensor, 87, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. She was born March 5, 1935 in Carter County to the late Steve and Belle Grindstaff Lowe.
Jemema was a graduate of Unaka High School and a retired cook at Hunter Elementary School. She was a member of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church.
Jemema was an avid Ladies Vols Basketball fan. She loved to sew, cook, read and most of all she loved her church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Ensor, and by several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her children, Sandra (Mike) Patrick, Clarksville, Tenn., Debbie (Eric) Heaton, Amy (James) Morrell and Audra (David) Wood, all of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Brittany Heaton, Cody Cornett, Matthew (Chelsea) Wood and Chelsea Wood, and soon to be great-grandson, John Ross Wood; her sister, Mary Cole; a brother, Lonnie Lowe; several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dennie and Ruby Ensor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with her son-in-law, Pastor Eric Heaton, and Pastor Doug Hartley officiating. Music will be provided by Joel Crisp. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 10, in the Kress Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Friday, will be James “Tank” Morrell, Matthew Wood, Shane Lowe, David Wood, Cody Cornett and Gary Morrell. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, her church family, Dr. Keith Cook and Nurse Aleshia Cuthbertson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the Kress Cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Friday.
