Roger Dell Woods, 60, of Hampton, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 10, 2022, at his home after an extended illness with his wife by his side. Roger was born and raised in Roan Mountain. He was the son of the late Ed and Roberta Woods.
Roger was a graduate of Cloudland High School. In earlier years he was employed by the North Carolina Correctional Department and also the Tennessee Correctional Department. In his healthier days Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, talking and visiting with his many special buddies. He was an amazing cook who loved feeding anyone he could. He loved his family at Little Milligan Baptist Church. He also adored his best friends, dogs Bubba and Kota, who will miss their buddy very much.
Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Sheila Laws Woods; a daughter, Kristal Andrews and husband Greg Andrews; three grandsons, Jared, Bryceon and Chayse Andrews; his brothers, Arnold Woods (David Webb) of Ohio and Scotty Woods (Dana) of Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Roger will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Little Milligan Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Icenhour officiating. Tyler Trusler and Larry Higgins will give the eulogy. Music will be provided by Rachael Trusler, Greg and Kristal Andrews. Interment will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jared Andrews, Bryceon Andrews, Chayse Andrews, John Shell, Scottie Roark, Greg Andrews and Devon Buck. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family and his many buddies. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Arnold Woods, Bryceon Andrews, Kristal Andrews, Greg Andrews, Scottie Roark and the Staff of Amedisys Hospice. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday at Little Milligan Baptist Church, prior to the service.
