Pedestrian hit by car in critical condition

Officers of the Johnson City Police Department responded to a serious injury vehicle crash on University Parkway near the Greenlee Road overpass on July 19 at approximately 9:20 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a pedestrian had been struck as he was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of University Parkway. The pedestrian, identified as John S. Gonder of Miami Drive, Johnson City, received life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center, where he is currently listed in critical condition.
The vehicle that struck Gonder, as he ran into its path, was subsequently struck from behind by a second vehicle traveling the same direction. The driver and a passenger of the second vehicle received injuries and were also transported to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment.
The investigation is being conducted by the Johnson City Police Department Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team.
