The Carter County Democratic Party and the Carter County Democratic Women’s Club will have their annual picnic Saturday, Aug. 13.  An invitation is extended to all Democrats, here and in neighboring counties, to join the group for a tasty barbeque from Hokie Smokie accompanied by a variety of pot luck dishes provided by those attending. Soft drinks and eating utensils will be supplied by the hosts.
The group looks forward to hearing candidates, Kate Craig for Tennessee Senate seat, District 3, and Cameron Parsons for U.S. House seat, District 1. Levi Jones, college student activist, will also speak regarding getting young people involved. “We will also know and will announce who will be our Democratic candidate for Governor of Tennessee. Their courage for stepping up to the challenge is most noteworthy,” said a party spokesperson.
A social hour will begin at 11 a.m. with the meal to be served at noon.
Bobby Harrell, Jennifer Gillenwater and Randy Melvin will provide music after which speakers will then have a chance to tell about their positions on various concerns.
The picnic will be held under the shelters behind the Franklin Pool. This covered area with seating is located to the right of Sycamore Shoals State Park, West Elk Avenue.
