Vina “Mae” Blair, 92, of Elizabethton, passed away at Life Care Center of Elizabethton on Sunday, August 7, 2022. Mae was born in Carter County to the late Maggie Ellen Cole and Robert “Witt” Hardin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Blair; a daughter, Kathy Baker; siblings, Frank Hardin, Andy Hardin, William “Bill” Hardin, Sam Hardin, Robert “Bob” Hardin, Ida Laws, Sarah Blanton, Nellie Ward, Anna Belle Montgomery and Bertha Bledsoe; a grandson, Terry Blair Hickman; and a granddaughter, Sarah Blair.
Mae became a loyal member of the Order of the Eastern Star Sycamore Chapter 163 in 1982, serving as Worthy Matron for several years as well as Chaplain and Martha. She was honored to be chosen to be on the Grand Committees and as a Grand Representative. She made many lifelong friends in the many chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star and cherished all the memories she made serving in this organization.
Mae loved to cook and everyone loved her cooking, especially her gravy and biscuits. She enjoyed working in her flowers and could grow anything from small cuttings. Mae loved to sing, especially the song, “Thank You Lord for Your Blessings on Me,” and you would hear her singing wherever she went. She danced around the house and said that was how she lost weight. She enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh. She regularly visited people at the nursing homes and would take food to the shut-ins at their home. Mae dedicated her life to helping others and her loving generosity will not be forgotten by all who met her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Brenda Blair; sons, Larry Blair (Melanie), Tommy Blair (Nancy) and Jerry Blair (Ruth Ann Haynes); grandsons, Dustin Baker, Corey Smith, Connor Smith (fiancée Ashley Coon), Anthony Blair, Kevin Blair and Brian Blair; granddaughter, Tesha Blair; great-granddaughter, Kaylee Knittel; and son-in-law, David Baker.
The family would like to thank the staff at Life Care Center, Avalon Hospice with a special thank you for Sandy and her nurses Grace, Penny and Cieara. Their dedication showed how they cared for Mae. The family would like to thank Dortha, Latonya, and Vanessa at Signature Healthcare in Elizabethton for your loving care of Mae.
