• Saturday, August 20
Open Jam at The Station, located on 19E just before the North Carolina line, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Come and join the fun with jam leader Brett Pryon.
The Roan Crows, Roan Mountain’s favorite father/son rock and rollers, are back once again to Rock the Mountain at the Roan Mountain Summer Concert Series from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Anderson Community Park (behind the post office) in Roan Mountain. Tim, Alton, and the gang will be sure to get you up on your happy feet with some classic rock and a few of their show-stopping originals. It’s sing along time so get ready to rock!!! Pack a picnic, spread a blanket or bring a lawnchair, and please come on up and enjoy an evening on the Roan.
The Annual Family Reunion for the descendants of Ruby and Addie Birchfield Gouge and Emmert and Bettie Gouge Collins will be held at the Little Doe Freewill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Bring a covered dish and join us. Any questions, call 725-4591.
According to State-Certified Instructor Ken Potter, a state-certified non-lethal weapons class will be taught starting at 8:30 a.m. The class will be held at 135 Keenburg Road in Elizabethton and will cover chemical spray, expandable baton, handcuffing, and taser. Applicants may take all programs or choose the ones they want. Potter said this course will cover training for security officers to carry these non-lethal weapons. Church groups may attend to obtain certificates of completion. All applicants must be 18 years of age or older to attend. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at First Baptist Church, 212 East F St., Elizabethton. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. • Saturday, August 27
State Certified Trainer Ken Potter will hold a state certified Armed/Unarmed Security Officer Class at 135 Keenburg Road, Elizabethton, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Potter stated the class would also cover renewal training, which is required prior to the issuance of a license by the state. The class covers several topics like use of force and active shooter. Applicants must be 21 years of age to obtain an armed guard license and 18 years of age for an unarmed license.
