Harol Smith, 88, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Hillview Health and Rehabilitation Center of Elizabethton. Harol was born in Louisville, Ky., to the late Ernest and Amy Mayes Smith.
Harol retired from American Air Filter, where he worked in production control for 38 years. He was a proud United States Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War. Harol was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher, and he was a former member of Ninth & O Baptist Church, Louisville, Ky.
Harol enjoyed serving at Grace Baptist Church, golfing, and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish Harol’s memory include his wife of 69 years, Martha Smith, of the home; two sons, Mike Smith (Carol) of Louisville, Ky., and John Smith (Bonnie) of Watauga, Tenn.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Harol’s life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 25, at Grace Baptist Church of Elizabethton with Pastor Travis Tyler officiating. Music will be under the direction of Laura Seagroves and Chad Todd. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.
The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, August 26, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside. Active pallbearers will be John Smith, MSgt Andrew Smith, US Air Force Reserves, Matthew Smith, Dave Ferguson, Jack Hamilton, Mike Smith and Junior Wilson. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Friday.
