Loaves & Fishes Outreach Ministry’s pantry is empty, and Director Selena Heaton Miller is asking for donations.
“We really need proteins, like tuna and peanut butter,” she said. “We open at 6 p.m. and close at 7 p.m., but we run out of hot meals and have to turn to making sandwiches.
“We need dry goods, noodles and pastas, cereals for kids and oatmeal. We have a lot of seniors raising grandchildren and they need all the help they can get.”
Miller said another dire need is milk, which Loaves & Fishes personnel buy with donated gift cards.
The ministry does this with no set budget, as they provide food using donations only. “Donations to us go straight to our account, always designated to Loaves & Fishes Outreach Ministry,” Miller said.
The charity feeds between 250 to 300 meals every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at its location at 1200 Highway 19E Bypass, across from CVS going toward Hampton.
The meals are free, but food boxes are also provided during those days if the recipient provides answers to a few questions. This is necessary for the boxes since the USDA provides some of the boxes’ contents.
“Any amount of food or monetary donation is not ‘too small,’” Miller said. “We will pick up your donations or whatever you need. We are willing to get the donation here and nothing is too small – it all adds up.”
