Bucs move up three spots in updated coaches’ poll
WACO, Texas – A day after cracking the top-10 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, the ETSU football team did the same in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FCS Top 25, as the Buccaneers moved to No. 8 in the latest rankings that were released on Tuesday.
ETSU was ranked No. 11 in the preseason poll, but following the Bucs’ 44-7 season-opening win over Mars Hill last Thursday, the Blue and Gold jumped into the top 10. This marks the Bucs’ highest ranking in the coaches’ poll since finishing No. 7 in the final poll last season.
The Bucs are one of three Southern Conference teams ranked in the Top-25 of the coaches’ poll with Chattanooga sitting No. 10 and Mercer at No. 23. Samford, who defeated then-No. 6 Kennesaw State last Thursday, is the top team receiving votes.
The top five teams in the poll remained the same – No. 1 North Dakota State, No. 2 Montana, No. 3 South Dakota State, No. 4 Montana State and No. 5 Villanova. Sacramento State and Missouri State both jumped up one spot with the Bucs moving up three slots to No. 8. Incarnate Word and Chattanooga rounded out the top 10.
ETSU gears up for its SoCon opener as the Bucs play at The Citadel Saturday at 4 p.m. inside Johnson Hagood Stadium.
