On August 31, the Johnson City Police Department arrested Daeszhon Smith, 27, in reference to a check fraud investigation. Smith was charged with five counts of forgery and theft of property over $10,000.
The arrest was a result of an investigation into several checks that were fraudulently passed at Eastman Credit Union.
Smith was taken into custody and transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he was held on a $5,000 bond. Smith’s next court appearance is on October 17 at 9 a.m. in Washington County General Sessions Court.
On September 1, at 11:26 a.m., officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Terry Ward, 35, and Britney Maness, 35, charging Ward with fraudulent use of a credit card and Maness with being a fugitive from justice for crimes in another state.
During an investigation into unauthorized transactions being made on a credit card, officers made contact with Ward at 11E Motel on 3500 W. Market St. Ward had obtained a room, charging the cost to a credit card that did not belong to him. Several other fraudulent purchases had also been placed on this credit card.
Ward was accompanied by Maness during the commission of these offenses. During the investigation, officers found that Maness was a wanted fugitive from the state of Virginia. Ultimately, Ward was arrested and is being held on a $2,500 bond at Washington County Detention Center. Maness was also arrested and is being held without bond at WCDC. Both Ward and Maness appeared in Washington County General Sessions Court on September 2.
