Summer brings the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers Celebration, a festival honoring the area’s rich Appalachian heritage. And in fall, visitors can enjoy the colorful foliage during the Autumn at a Roan event.

What kind of weather can I expect while visiting Roan Mountain?

Roan Mountain experiences all four seasons, so you can expect a variety of weather conditions depending on when you visit. 

In the spring, temperatures are mild with occasional showers. The average highs are in the 60s, but it can get into the 70s on some days. At night, the lows can dip into the 40s, so you’ll want to pack a light jacket. 

Summers are warm and sunny, with average highs in the 80s. However, it’s not unusual for temperatures to reach into the 90s. Nights are usually comfortable, with lows in the 60s. 

Fall is a great time to visit Roan Mountain because of the beautiful foliage. The weather is cool and crisp, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. 

Winter brings snow to Roan Mountain, so if you’re visiting during this time be sure to pack your winter gear! Average highs are in the 30s and 40s, but it can get much colder on some days. Lows typically dip below freezing at night.

What are the best times of the year to visit Roan Mountain?

Roan Mountain is a beautiful place to visit any time of the year, but some times of the year are better than others, depending on what you’re looking for. 

If you’re looking for wildflowers, the best time to visit is late June through early July. This is when the majority of the flowers are in bloom. 

If you’re looking for fall colors, the best time to visit is mid-October. This is when the leaves start to change color and Roan Mountain is absolutely breathtaking. 

If you’re looking to avoid crowds, the best time to visit is during the week and not on weekends. Weekdays tend to be much quieter than weekends and you’ll have the place almost to yourself!
