Roy Allen Carriger, age 87, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born in Bluff City, TN to the late Robert Carriger and Elizabeth Dunn Carriger. Roy joined the Marine Corps Reserve serving in the Korean War and later went on to work at North American Rayon Corporation. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 2166 and Disabled Veterans Chapter 17. Roy also worked with the Honor Guard for over 60 years. He enjoyed cars, mowing his yard, listening to music and especially loved his family. Roy was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Ann Carriger; sister, Peggy Ellen Carriger; four brothers, Paul Carriger, Wendell Carriger, infant Charles Carriger, Earl Carriger and son, Robert Carriger.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Ellen Taylor and husband Skip, of Elizabethton; brother, Gerald Wayne Carriger, of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Wesley Wright and wife Nikki, Chelsey Kirkland and husband Ashton, McKenzie Carriger and Stephanie Carriger; five great-grandchildren, Nash Kirkland, Olive Kirkland, Julian Wright, Braxton Wright and Isaiah Brown; and two stepsons, Hugh Thomason and Eddie Thomason.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 23, 2022, in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected by family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Hatley, Paul Benfield, Ken Nidiffer, Kelley Greene, Reecy Kinnard, Harvey Tester and Sarah Sheffield. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 PM on Sunday.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Staff at the CLC at Mountain Home, Dr. A, as well as Holly and Rebekah for all their loving care and support during this difficult time.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
