New Highlands of Roan signs

New “peakfinder” signs recently installed on Round Bald in the Highlands of Roan will help hikers learn about conservation and the landscape surrounding the Appalachian Trail. However, these signs aren’t just for information. The placement of the signs is part of a broader Visitor Use Management effort to reduce impacts from recreation and protect fragile habitat. The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy’s Roan Stewardship team led this project, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy provided a grant to fund creating the signs, and volunteers and partners at TN Eastman Hiking and Canoeing Club and the US Forest Service performed the installation.
