James Stewart Bates, 65, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was the son of the late James Gregory Bates and Nettie Ruth Bates.
James retired after many years from General Shale. He enjoyed drag racing, fishing, spending time with his grandbabies, riding motorcycles and four-wheelers when younger, working on cars and going to the car show.
James always looked out for everyone. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Braylon Lowe; sister, Tammy Bates; brother, Danny Bates; and nephew, Jeffrey Largent.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Jamie Carpenter and husband Michael, Cassie Lowe and husband Jackson, Travis Bates and wife Bethany and Kristen Campbell and husband Robert; and grandchildren, Dayton Whitehead, Cassidy Carpenter, Jayce Lowe, Callie Lowe, Baylee Silvers, Kaleb Lowe and Draven Townsend; several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
