To the Editor:
Because of weather, supply problems and war some food shortages are expected in 2023. Baby formula, pumpkin, apple juice, cream cheese, soda, peaches, tomatoes, avocados, sugar, wheat, milk, cooking oils, mayonnaise, honey, potatoes, bananas, soybeans, blueberries, corn, citrus fruit, coffee, cashews, rice, cat food, chocolate, chicken, eggs, paper goods and plastics are expected to be out and not available in many locations in 2023. Some are recommending those having babies using formula, to ask their doctor if they can use goat’s milk in place of formula as it is a healthy alternative. However, if there is a shortage of diesel, the delivery trucks can’t run and everything will become in short supply.
Many make New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier. Some doctors say make your food your medicine and you are what you eat. The foods you eat affect you just like the medicines you take. Except the foods don’t have bad side effects like medicines. People should consider eating more of what foods the Bible recommends. A Christian website I recommend is www.livingwaters.com. According to Ray Comfort at Living Waters, Jesus ate or recommended nine foods. So we know these foods are healthy. The nine foods in alphabetical order are butter, eggs, figs, fish, honey, lamb, sea salt, veal, and whole grain bread. The food most recommended by the Bible is honey. John the Baptist, a man filled with the Holy Spirit, ate honey. Doctors say real butter, eggs and honey are healthy. Jesus recommended sea salt which has up to 84 minerals and trace elements. Today’s salt after being processed has only one important mineral which is iodide. Doctors say almonds, beets, berries, mushrooms, pecans, sauerkraut, sweet potatoes and spinach are superfoods that they recommend to be eaten every day. Jesus also fasted and doctors say that is healthy for most people. Fasting or taking vitamin C takes contaminates out of the body. Smokers should take extra vitamin C. Studies show most Americans have plastic and weed killer in them. The wisest man other than Jesus was King Solomon who had every food in the world to chose from, and ate apples when he was sick. So there may be truth in the saying, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away!”
Exercise will also keep the doctor away. Many make New Year’s resolutions to exercise more. Studies have found doctors should be prescribing more exercise for common chronic problems including arthritis, heart disease, and diabetes. “Many doctors and their patients aren’t aware exercise is a treatment for these chronic conditions and can provide as much benefit as drugs or surgery and with fewer harms,” said Dr. Tammy Hoffmann of Bond University, Australia. America has an obesity problem. More than 20 percent of adults are obese according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to Dr. Bret Scher (www.prageru.com/video), a cardiologist, ever since the government began telling Americans what to eat, we have gotten fatter and sicker. In 1977, when the government first set dietary guidelines, the average American male weighed only 170 pounds. He now weighs 197. The average American women went from 145 pounds in 1977 to 170 pounds today. American children have triple the obesity they had in 1980. Dr. Scher said, “the weight gain has real-life consequences: the percent of Americans diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (a condition that can lead to severe medical issues) has risen from 2 percent in 1977 to over nine percent in 2015. In numbers that’s from five million people to over 30 million people.” The number one factor increasing the likelihood of death from COVID was being obese. Americans need to eat more clean fruits and vegetables (fiber) and drink clean water and get more exercise.
We need to take responsibility for our own health. 1 Thessalonians 5 says, “Prove (test) all things; hold fast that which is good (true)!” Don’t take my word for it or that of anyone else. You are responsible for your own health. There isn’t a one size fits all approach to health because on a biological level every person is unique. By providing the above information I am not diagnosing, treating, curing, mitigating or preventing any type of disease or medical condition. Before beginning any type of treatment regimen, it’s advisable to seek the advise of a healthcare practitioner or medical doctor. Growing up in Elizabethton I was blessed to have a Christian, Dr. Wells, as my doctor. He couldn’t cure my aunt, but he prayed for her and God healed her. We need more Christian doctors!
Your body and physical health is important, but of greater importance is your soul and spiritual health. 3 John 1:2, “Beloved I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.” Jesus can help change your heart to a merry heart. Proverbs 17:22, “A merry heart does good like a medicine but a broken spirit dries the bones.” All people suffer from a fatal spiritual disease called sin, which always leads to death. Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Right now through repentance of your spiritual disease called sin, you can come to and trust only Jesus, the Great Physician, for healing and assurance of eternal life! The most healthy thing you can do and the best exercise to do is to walk with Jesus daily! Christians will soon get a new body and be in perfect health and flying with Jesus at the rapture!
