Ramsey leads Lady Rangers past UH while boy’s team suffers loss

Senior Lyndie Ramsey scored a game-high 41 points as the Unaka Lady Rangers won their third consecutive game and opened conference play with a 60-39 victory over University High on Friday night at Snavely gymnasium.
“Lyndie always plays hard and we try to let the others play and see what they can do,” Lady Rangers head coach Kenneth Chambers said. “We made some mistakes but we played hard. What we want to do is get playing time for some of them as the season moves on. We want to be playing our best at tournament time.”
Ramsey had 11 first-quarter points as Unaka (5-12 overall, 1-0 conference) built an 18-5 lead. The Lady Rangers rolled to a 32-10 halftime advantage with Ramsey having an even 20 points in the half.
University High (0-14 overall, 0-1 conference) rallied in the third period – outscoring Unaka 18-9 in the stanza – but still trailed 41-28 going into the final quarter. Kati Stancil scored a team-high 13 points for UH with Vania Ortiz adding 11.

The Buccaneers (9-4, 1-1) had four players in double-figure scoring and connected on 11 three-point shots in defeating the Rangers. Brady Weems scored a team-high 17 points and knocked down five trey’s and A.J. Murphy added 14 points for UH.
Senior Landon Ramsey had a game-high 22 points but was ejected as he drew a second technical foul with 2:10 remaining in the fourth quarter. Joe-Z Blamo added 15 points to the Rangers ledger but it wasn’t enough on this night.
UH took a 16-10 lead after one quarter and extended to a 36-24 halftime lead. UH led 52-40 after three periods as the Rangers at one point cut the lead to eight. But UH had a pair of steals and easy buckets under the hoop early in the fourth quarter to steal the Rangers momentum back.
Drew Finnley scored 11 for the Bucs while Pete Boyrewilz added 10 points.
