The Elizabethton Regional Planning Commission has approved a second new addition at Snap-on Tools.
Committee members met Thursday evening to discuss the plans. Back in January, the commission approved a final site plan for a 25,350-square-foot addition at the property which is located at 2195 State Line Road. During January’s meeting, the board also approved the addition of a new parking lot at Snap-on.
During Thursday’s meeting, Logan Engle, the city’s planning director, said Snap-on officials would now like to build a second new addition.
The first addition approved in January was on the north side of the property. The plans presented Thursday were for a 23,000-square-foot addition on the east side of Snap-on.
Engle said the city has thoroughly reviewed the new plans and suggested its approval. The board subsequently approved the board with a 5-0 vote.
Engle also informed the board about Snap-on’s construction entry driveway that has been placed across the Tweetsie Trail. Because the trail is the property of the city of Johnson City, Engle said she has advised Snap-on to discuss it with that city.
Board member Wes Frazier, a Snap-on employee, told committee members that the company plans to meet with the city of Johnson City on Monday to discuss the issue.
Snap-on Tools has been operating in Elizabethton since 1974. It has expanded on several occasions since it first came to Elizabethton and has between 300-400 employees.
J.A. Street and Associates is the general contractor for the expansion.
