MILLIGAN — A group of Milligan University students were recognized and awarded for their creativity by the American Advertising Federation – Northeast Tennessee (AAF NETN) at the American Advertising Awards held on Saturday, Feb. 25. Collectively, the group earned five awards.
The American Advertising Awards honor the best and most creative advertising work from students and professionals in advertising. As one of the industry’s largest creative competitions, nearly 35,000 professionals and students enter the American Advertising Awards competition each year.
Junior Abbey Cartagena, of Johnson City, and Ashley Roberts, a sophomore from Kingsport, received silver ADDY awards in illustration.
Milligan students won two Judge’s Choice Awards, an award where each of the three judges for the AAF NETN select their favorite work in the competition. Senior Katherine Eldridge, of Fort Payne, Ala., won the award for a self-promotional leave-behind entry in the Package Design category.
A group of eight Milligan students also won a Judge’s Choice Award for a countdown campaign for the 2022 “Two Cats + A Herd of Buffalo” art show. Additionally, the countdown campaign received a silver ADDY in the Cross-Platform-Integrated Advertising Campaign/Consumer Campaign category. The Milligan students involved include Katherine Eldridge; senior Kaylee Hendrickson, of Unicoi; Stacia Wilson, a senior from Roan Mountain; junior Joseph Dykes, Johnson City; Emanuel Mogaya, a junior from Martinsville, Va.; junior Austin Walker, Lawndale, N.C.; Ashley Roberts; and graduate student Anna Konstantopoulos, Jonesborough.
“I am so proud of our students and their success in this year’s competition,” said Art Brown, associate professor of graphic design. “It’s rewarding to see their creative work recognized by the judges, and it’s an important opportunity for advertising and creative professionals in our region to see their work. Their successes also reflect the strength of our graphic design and interactive media design programs at Milligan.”
