JONESBOROUGH – Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton is alerting area residents to a scam soliciting for donations.
The letter uses Sheriff Sexton’s name specifically and states that it is endorsed by Tennessee Sheriff’s Association President Robert Bryan. Bryan is not president of the state organization. Sexton did not endorse the letter stating “for just 7 cents a day,” you can support your local sheriff’s office.
Similar scams are likely across the region using the names of other sheriffs as well. Sexton reminds local residents to check out charities before they make a donation.
