Velma Sue (Brumitt) Coleman, 84, of Hampton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. Velma was born in Elizabethton to the late Opie and Florence (Wilson) Brumitt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Coleman; a son, Hubert Coleman; a sister, Eula Dean Campbell; and her brother, Harold Brumitt.
Velma was a kind and loving mother and servant of the Lord. She was a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish Velma’s memory include four daughters, Kathy Brumitt of Johnson City, Shelia Burns and husband Robert of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Brenda Oliver of Elizabethton and Christine Largent and husband Jeff of Hampton, Tenn.; her son, James Coleman and wife Deedra of Georgia; her grandchildren, Anthony Oliver of Johnson City and Kevin Burns and Brookie Burns, both of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; and two sisters, Hazel Smith of Johnson City and Joyce Williams and husband Joe of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate Velma’s life will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 17, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Rev. Dean Presnell officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
