National Forest Service releases annual schedule for opening, closing roads

USDA Forest Service officials at the Cherokee National Forest recently announced the annual schedule for opening and closing roads from March 27, 2023, through mid-December 2023. These roads are in the northern portion of the Cherokee National Forest (Cherokee Wildlife Management Area) in Cocke, Greene, Washington, Unicoi, Carter, Sullivan, and Johnson counties.
Spring road openings scheduled for March 27 in Carter County include Frog Level, Little Pond Mountain, Mill Creek/Holston Mountain, Bitter End, and White Rock
Roads opening April 3 include Piney Grove.
Spring road closings include Cedar Gap and George Creek in Carter County. Both roads are closed for timber sale. The George Creek Road will open temporary March 27 and will close later this year for timber sale.
The Cherry Flats Road in Carter County will not open due to resource or storm damage.
