The 4th Annual Sacred Music Celebration of East Tennessee will be held at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City at 7 p.m. on March 26. It’s free to the public.
The celebration is sponsored by the Johnson City congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and features nearly a dozen musical selections performed by local church groups and organizations.
“In our deeply religious community, music is a beautiful medium of communicating our spiritual heritage and convictions,” said Abby Boone, event organizer. “Hans Christian Andersen said, ‘Where words fail, music speaks.’ Music is also a connecting tool, a way to come together as a community through a shared sensory experience. This sacred musical experience encompasses diverse music styles and is more like a buffet or a la carte line that has the ability to touch hearts in a deeply spiritual way.”
Performers include vocalist T.R. and Carla Dunn (leader of nonprofit 4thirTeen), organist Matthew Brickey (Munsey’s resident organist), violinist Abby Boone (Johnson City Symphony Orchestra), Country Classics, ETSU Vocal Band, ETSU Progression Band, ETSU Acoustic Ruffians, Milligan Orchestra, Milligan Heritage A Capella Choir, Munsey Memorial United Methodist Choir, and a children’s choir from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
