JONESBOROUGH – Kirk Buchanan, 24, of Erwin, was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary after an incident that occurred early in the morning on April 9.

According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, deputies responded to a call of an unknown man entering a home in Bumpus Cove and fell on top of two children sleeping on a couch. Buchanan, who was intoxicated, apparently broke into the home and collapsed on top of the children, who began screaming and woke up their mother. She immediately took the children, hid in another room and called 911.

Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with Buchanan, who was completely unaware of his surroundings.

Buchanan was taken into custody and transported to the Washington County Detention Center. Buchanan is being held on a $20,000 bond and was arraigned on April 10.

The children were not harmed during the incident.
