Barbara “Barbie” Sue Maye, 72, of Unicoi, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Carter County to the late Willie Anderson Barnett and Opal May Mclaughlin Barnett.
Barbara worked for Texas Instruments for 20 years and finished her career as an interior decorator. She loved to decorate, work in the garden and spend time with her family.
Barbara was a devout Christian, classy, loving and a sweet southern lady. She was of the Christian faith. In her early years, she attended Church of Jesus Christ and Trinity Assembly of God. Barbara also attended Johnson City Baptist Temple with her husband.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Benita Bucher, and a brother, Willie Anderson Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, William “Bill” Maye; step-son, Jeffrey Lynn Maye; granddaughter, Amber Maye; and sisters, Brenda Stout, Beverly Barnett, Bertie Hodge and husband Rocky Hodge, Betsy Delavega and husband Victor Delavega, Bridgett Peeks and Becky Gardner and her husband Jonathan Bart Gardner. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and other family members will miss her greatly.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 12 and 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home. The service will begin at 2 p.m. following the visitation on Tuesday. The graveside service and interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Richard Bucher, Trinity Allen, Johnny Burrough, Matt Little, Samuel Delavega, Jared Burgner and Joseph Mancil. The family would like to give a special thanks to Johnson City Medical Center, 2200 floor staff and especially nurse Channy Man for all their loving care and support during this difficult time. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
