Humphrey named Lady Bulldogs head basketball coach

According to a press release from Carter County Schools, Dewayne Humphrey has been named the new head basketball coach for the HamptonĀ  High Lady Bulldogs.
Humphrey takes over for Carter County Schools Superintendent Brandon Carpenter, who led the Lady Bulldogs to a state semifinal appearance this past season. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1999. Coach Humphrey started his basketball coaching career in 2006 as the head coach of the Hampton Jr. Bulldogs at Hampton Elementary, where he coached until the end of the 2020 season.
During his time with the Jr. Bulldogs, Humphrey coached his team in several sectional championships and his team played in the first ever TMSAA state championship game in 2019 and made the tournament again in 2020. In 2016, Coach Humphrey joined Ned Smith’s coaching staff while still coaching at Hampton Elementary. He has coached the freshman, junior varsity and assisted with the varsity boys team alongside Smith in six state tournament appearances as well as this year’s TSSAA State Championship.
