The Tennessee Secretary of State has set the dates for the special election to select a successor to Rep. Scotty Campbell of Mountain City.
Campbell represented District 3 in the Tennessee House, which include all of Johnson County and parts of Carter, Sullivan, and Hawkins County. There are five voting precincts in Carter County, which will participate in the special election. They include Elk Mills, Hampton, Roan Mountain, Tiger Valley, and Valley Forge.
The primary election to fill the seat is Thursday, June 22, and the general election day is Thursday, Aug. 3. Early voting for the primary election is June 2-17, and early voting for the general election is July 14-29.
Candidates for the special elections must submit their completed petitions by noon May 11. Voter registration deadline for the primary is May 23.
Campbell resigned his seat in the Tennessee House in April after being found guilty of sexually harassing at least one legislative intern, likely two, by an ethics subcommittee.
