First Friday Concerts in the Park brought to you by Elizabethton Parks and Recreation kicked off the 2023 season on Friday, May 5, 2023! This FREE concert series, sponsored by Carter County Bank, will take place the first Friday of each month, May through August, at Covered Bridge Park from 7-9 P.M. Bring along a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the night. Food trucks will be on site each month to sell drinks and concessions.
Friday, June 2 The Kindest People will take the stage. The Kindest People are a four-piece indie/garage rock band from the mountains of Johnson City, Tennessee, who pump out their own unique brand of DIY rock and roll. Walking a line of modern pop sensibilities with a reverence for 60’s garage rock and 90’s alternative, The Kindest People have created a sprawling catalog of albums and content over the last seven years. Whether you’re listening to one of the band’s many records or taking in one of their rowdy live shows, you’ll be sure to have a good time when you’re with The Kindest People.
Friday, July 7 will feature Fritz & Co., who is helmed by Abingdon based singer-songwriter Logan Fritz. Anchored by Elizabethton-via-Asheville Amanda Hollifield on the drum kit and Joshua Cavinder on all things keys, founding member of Holy Ghost Tent Revival Matt Martin on bass guitar and vocals, and Wise County native McKenna Blevins on vocals and auxiliary percussion, the band brings the fun with genre-defying exciting original material and a few beloved covers. Fritz & Co have been a staple at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, Appalachian Trail Days, The Howling, and have played extensively throughout the tri-cities and surrounding area. Logan and his band mates have opened for (most recently) The Wallflowers, Amythyst Kiah, Caroline Rose, Brent Cobb, The Wood Brothers, The Broadcast, and 49 Winchester
August will close out this series with a bang featuring Joey’s Van on Friday, August 4. Joey’s Van is a pop punk cover band from East Tennessee and wants to make you feel like you’re in middle school again. “Like many millennials, we were all very into the pop punk scene growing up. Today, that’s the type of music that we go back to when we’re craving that nostalgic feeling. Since most cover bands only play country and classic rock, we started this band to appeal to our demographic. Our sets are fun and upbeat, but still have a way of hitting you in the feels. Our unique, high energy shows have established a guarantee for a good time in areas like Downtown Knoxville, throughout the Tri-Cities, TN, Western NC, and the Southwest VA regions.”
Elizabethton Parks and Recreation would like to thank our sponsor of this event, Carter County Bank, for their support of local musicians and providing this free community concert series all summer long!
