Lane closures, detours on West State of Franklin to begin Sunday

JOHNSON CITY – Contractors working on the West Walnut Street Corridor Redevelopment Project will perform roadwork on West State of Franklin Road next week between Buffalo and South Commerce/Sevier streets. The work is set to begin Sunday, June 25, at 7 p.m. Construction will take one to four days to complete. The lane closure and detour will be in effect for 24 hours a day while crews complete the necessary work.
The following impacts to traffic on West State of Franklin Road are expected:
• Westbound traffic will be detoured to Buffalo Street. Drivers should follow posted detour signs.
• Eastbound traffic will have one lane open. Motorists should observe lane shift signs.
• Large tractor-trailers on West State of Franklin Road should observe posted detours around construction.
• Commercial truck traffic making deliveries near the construction zone should use eastbound lane of West State of Franklin Road.
• The sidewalk/trail along West State of Franklin Road in this area will also be impacted.
Drivers who cannot avoid the area should expect delays and detours, use caution in the construction zone, and observe posted speed limits for their safety and the safety of workers.
