Erwin “Ut” Louis Lueker Jr.

Rev. Dr. Erwin “Ut” Louis Lueker Jr., 79, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2023, to be with his Lord and mother on Mother’s Day. Erwin was born on February 1, 1944 to Rev. Dr. Erwin Louis Sr. and Anna Marie Lueker.
Erwin spent his childhood in Concordia and St. Louis, Mo., and graduated from Lutheran High School. Afterwards, he attended both seminary and college resulting in a Master of Divinity and master’s degree in psychology, respectively, in 1970. He continued his studies in psychology while pastoring and received a doctorate in psychology in 1980. Throughout life, he was fascinated by the connections between theology and psychology and enjoyed both research and teaching. His pastoral duties led him to serving numerous congregations around Southern California and ultimately to Elizabethton, Tenn.
In addition to his lifelong interest in theology and psychology, Erwin enjoyed gardening, traveling, and learning the latest news in the lives of his friends and family. He also greatly enjoyed meeting and learning from new acquaintances.
Erwin married Sharon Ehlers in 1972 and adopted her son, Brian. They were further blessed with two additional sons, Martin and Matthew. He remarried in 1988 to JoAnn Moore after being introduced by her son. Through this marriage, Erwin was blessed with sons, John and Mike Moore.
In addition to his parents, Erwin was preceded in death by his dear stepmother, Margaret Lueker; children, Brian Lueker and John Moore; and grandson, Kyle Moore.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; his siblings, Lisette Gibson, George (Frances) Lueker, and Jonathon (Cathy) Lueker; his children, Mike (Trisha) Moore, Martin (Sirena) Lueker-Boden, and Matthew (Jenne) Lueker; his grandchildren, Sondra Fisher, Johnny Moore, Michael Moore, Zachery Moore, Xavier Lueker-Boden, Aren Lueker-Boden, Ellar Lueker and Milo Lueker; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a service to honor the life of Erwin at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elizabethton at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 8, with Rev. Mark Kophamer officiating. Remains will be interred next to Erwin’s parents in Concordia Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Online condolences may be shared with the family and viewed on our website at www.hathawaypercy.com.
