Lester B. “L.B.” Shatley, 89, of Hampton, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was the son of the late George and Ida Barbrow Shatley and was born on January 6, 1934. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anita “June” Nave Shatley, in 2014; a son, Jeffery Shatley; three sisters, Louise Yates, Rita Harris and Norma Babo; and a brother, James Howard Shatley.
L.B. was a 1952 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. He was a member of Masonic Dashiell Lodge #238 F&AM. He served as a Jericho Temple Shriner and was a York Rite Mason.
A pipe fitter by trade, L.B. was employed before his retirement by Bemberg Power House in Elizabethton, Raytheon in Bristol, and North Electric in Gray Station. He was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memories include a son, Brian Shatley; three grandchildren, Brandon Shatley and wife Kristina, Melea Shatley Stevenson and husband Bobby, and Casey Shatley; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, at Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section, 53 Memorial Blvd., Mountain Home, TN, 37684) with Pastor Dean Smith officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the DAV Chapter 39 Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Lynn Valley Baptist Church, 1367 Broad Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
