Robert Sorrell, a frequent contributor to the Elizabethton STAR and former full-time staffer, was recently recognized by the East Tennessee Historical Society with the Project Excellence Award for his book “The Story of Becoming Piney Flats.” His was one of 28 awards presented by the ETHS for significant contributions to the preservation, programming, and interpretation of the region’s history. Sorrell, left, has written other similar books, including one on Roan Mountain.
