Harmony Freewill Baptist Church’s annual Back-to-School Bash Ministry July 29 is not one that comes together inside a bubble. Instead, it is an event – more than three decades old – that involves nearly every single person in the area, either through donations, prayers, volunteering or all those combined.
One such activity for the good of the children of the area to provide common underclothes and shoes came from Factory Connection #505 at 163 Hudson Dr. in Elizabethton.
“We wanted to step up in support of the Carter County Back to School Bash by donating shoes, socks, gloves, scarfs and clothing to help out with the Back-to-School Bash Ministry,” said Factory Connection’s Nancy Berry, a store associate who said she’s “just a part-time worker.”
However, she’s more than that, as her heart is full for the school children in the area. “I am just an employee of the local franchise,” she said humbly. “I enjoy working there even though it’s part time. I meet so many sweet folks, young and old. I love our little town.
“We truly enjoy being able to support such activities in our community,” she added. “We are looking forward to working with them again. [Those who organize and help the bash] are such great people. And I just want to make sure the children have nice things and know they are loved. Because they are.”
Berry and the folks at Factory Connection represent the hundreds of people in Elizabethton, Hampton and surrounding areas who donate not for self and glory, but for the nourishment of others.
