Investigation continues regarding Saturday evening vehicle crash on West Elk Avenue

On Saturday, July 29, at 8:25 p.m., officers of the Elizabethton Police Department were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision with injuries in the 100 block of West Elk Ave. Upon arrival, officers observed a red Dodge Ram 2500 had collided with a red Mitsubishi Outlander in the westbound lane.
According to the release, it was determined the Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on West Elk Ave., crossed over into the westbound lanes and collided with the Mitsubishi Outlander. The driver of the Dodge was identified as Nathaniel Loughner of Roan Mountain. The driver of the Mitsubishi, identified as Shirley Rhone, of Elizabethton, was entrapped inside her vehicle. Elizabethton Fire Department and Carter County EMS responded to the scene to begin extraction of Mrs. Rhone. Due to the possibility of serious injuries being involved in the accident, the Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was activated. S.T.A.R. team members arrived on scene and took over the investigation. All parties involved in the accident were transported to the Johnson City Medical Center due to injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
