To commemorate the Hiroshima atomic bombing, to unite in declaring Never Again! and to pray for a world free of nuclear weapons, Appalachian Peace Education Center will sponsor a prayer vigil and peace walk along the Erwin Linear Trail Sunday, Aug. 6, at 2 p.m. This is the first year that APEC will participate in the United Religions Initiative (URI) “Nuclear PrayerDay,, a global day of interfaith prayer for peace and disarmament. All are welcome to attend, rain or shine.
Participants will assemble for the peace walk at 2 p.m. at the parking lot for the boardwalk section of the Linear Trail across from 1080 S. Industrial Park Drive, Erwin. The walk will begin with songs of peace in the shaded section of trail and gather at the boardwalk over the ponding area for prayers for healing of the waters of the Nolichucky. The peace walk will continue along the shaded trail to the gazebo to rehydrate and refresh and will resume along the same shady path back to the parking area.
