JOHNSON CITY – The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday the hiring of Blake Watson as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s golf programs.
Watson has spent the last two years as a graduate assistant for the men’s and women’s golf programs at Point University, while he has also served as an Assistant Golf Professional at Highland Country Club and Chimney Oaks Golf Club.
“I would like to thank East Tennessee State University and the Buccaneer community for giving me the opportunity to be the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s golf programs,” said Watson. “I am extremely grateful and excited to aid Coach Amos and Coach Shelton in building ETSU’s legacy on and off the golf course.”
During Watson’s time as a graduate assistant at Point, he helped lead the Skyhawks to six team titles, while the men posted a seventh-place finish at the 2022 NAIA National Championship at TPC Deere Run and finished tied for 11th at the 2023 National Championship at Las Sendas Golf Club. Watson coached Cole Stevens who earned 2023 NAIA PING First Team All-American honors and was named 2023 AAC Conference Player of the Year. Between Stevens and Trevor Poole, the duo combined for five individual wins during Watson’s time coaching the Skyhawks.
Off the course, Watson played an integral role in the Skyhawks’ recruiting efforts, while he was also the community service liaison and helped oversaw the academic progress for the golf programs.
Watson received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a minor in Biblical Studies from Point University in May of 2020. He then earned his Master of Business Administration from Point in 2023.
